BOMA HAWAIʻI COMMITTEES

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Purpose:  BOMA Hawai'i researches community needs and develops plans to assist those groups and/or charities through volunteer time. Serve our community in efforts that align with BOMA Hawai'i's mission.

Specific Duties: Speak to various organizations on island to see if there are ways to provide support from the Community Service Committee and BOMA Hawai'i members. If feasible, work with other Community Service Committee chairs from other real estate industry organizations on ways to collaborate on volunteer projects. Works with BAE for communication of event(s) to the membership as well as ensure adequate resources for events. Serves as coordinator/facilitator between the volunteer organization(s) and BOMA Hawai'i, including execution of our volunteer commitments.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

Purpose:  To provide education and awareness to the Association’s membership with the goal to prepare for and reduce the effects of both natural and man-made disasters. The committee shall identify and disseminate information that will benefit commercial real estate on emergency preparedness, building security and related issues.

Specific Duties: The Disaster Preparedness (DP) Committee chair will meet with the president, other officers and the BOMA association executive (BAE) to determine a direction for the annual disaster preparedness day event, including format and content.

The committee shall plan the program including coordination of content, confirmation of selected speaker(s), and selection of venue and event format. The DP Committee chair shall work with the BAE to book the selected venue and assist with any special presentation formatting, audio visual needs and other items to execute the program.

The DP Chair will execute the event on or below the budget provided, with any exceptions being reviewed with the president, other offices and BAE.

EDUCATION

Purpose: To enhance the level of professional knowledge available to members through the sponsorship of educational courses of relevance to the Association’s membership. To encourage participation in the programs of the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) for attaining professional certification.

Specific Duties: The committee chair will meet with the President, other Officers and the BOMA Association Executive to determine a direction for this program and related activities. Committee members shall be current BOMA members in good standing.  The Committee under the leadership of the committee chair will determine programs to encourage participation and direct the BOMA association executive in providing communications to existing and potential students.  All written communication will be approved by the committee prior to mailing.  Prepare annual income/expense budget. The Education Committee will proctor exams (for self-study and/or on-line classes) as requested by BOMA International.

GOLF & BOWLING

Purpose: Responsible for coordinating, planning, budgeting and promoting BOMA Hawai'i’s annual golf tournament

Specific Duties: Develop budget for approval by Board of Directors and inclusion in association annual budget. Select course and negotiate contract with the assistance of the BAE for submission to Board of Directors and signature of the President. Publicize tournament to members through flyers, website, newsletter, announcements, and at meetings, etc. Involve members through sponsorship opportunities, such as, aid stations, beverage carts, prize give-a-ways, etc. Plan and execute all aspects of the golf tournament. Submit committee report each month for inclusion in monthly Board of Directors agenda.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Purpose: To provide education and awareness to the Association’s membership with the goal to share the industry's latest legislative developments. Work as a committee and with the BAE to apply for Industry Defense Fund grant(s) as applicable based on latest legislation.

Specific Duties: Work as a committee and with the BAE to follow the latest legislative developments effecting our industry and its members. Educate and make members aware of legislation that affects members.

Collaborate with BAE to apply for BOMA International Industry Defense Fund (IDF) grant(s) and/or local grants as applicable to latest legislative developments and in the interest of its members.

PROGRAMS

Purpose: The Programs Committee shall be responsible for planning and coordinating exciting and educational programs for our monthly luncheons. The committee helps plan every facet of the member luncheons, from determining topics of interest to securing speakers and locations.

Specific Duties: Secure and coordinate the programs, including topics and speakers, for (5) member luncheons. The (3) other member luncheons are "special" luncheons coordinated by other committees (Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness and Social/Holiday).

Provide BAE with speaker and program information no later than 5 weeks prior to event so that the flyer can be made and communication sent out to the membership.

Create agenda/program for program. Emcee and/or coordinate an emcee for each luncheon.

Include in program: sponsorship thank you, platinum sponsor speaking segment (if applicable), event announcements, President's address.

SOCIALS

Purpose: Plans, coordinates, and facilitates approximately two (2) social networking events per year. Promotes the benefits of networking.

Specific Duties: To plan, coordinate, and facilitate the summer social (July), bowling tournament (November) and holiday social (December member luncheon). To plan and coordinate, with the assistance of the BOMA Association Executive, any major events that are outlined by the board of directors. To present monthly updates and reports to the board of directors. To prepare the budget for submission to the board of directors.


SUSTAINABILITY

Purpose: To provide education and awareness to the Association’s membership with the goal to share the industry's latest sustainability efforts and developments. The committee shall identify and disseminate information that will benefit commercial real estate on sustainability, energy efficiency and related efforts.

Specific Duties: The Sustainability Committee chair will meet with the president, other officers and the BOMA association executive (BAE) to determine a direction for the annual Sustainability Event, including format and content.

The committee shall plan the program including coordination of content, confirmation of selected speaker(s), and selection of venue and event format. The Sustainability Committee chair shall work with the BAE to book the selected venue and assist with any special presentation formatting, audio visual needs and other items to execute the program.

The Sustainability Chair will execute the event on or below the budget provided, with any exceptions being reviewed with the president, other offices and BAE. 


MEMBERSHIP & SPONSORSHIP

Purpose: Responsible for the recruitment and retention of members and sponsors. Membership committee members serve as “hosts” for new and/or prospective members and sponsors at functions and actively follows up with members at renewal time.

Specific Duties: The membership chair will meet with the President, other officers, and the BOMA Association Executive to determine a direction for the membership activities. With the assistance of the BOMA association executive, a review of recent membership activities shall be undertaken.

The membership campaign may be divided into three or more segments, and the membership chair may appoint one or more members to assist in each of the segments.

The membership committee members should serve as “hosts” at the luncheon meetings and other activities to ensure that new and prospective members feel welcome.

The membership committee should assist the BOMA association executive at large meetings to facilitate the registration process to benefit all attendees.

The membership chair with the assistance of the BOMA Association Executive shall submit the names of new members to the board of directors for approval.

Renewal of Existing Members & Sponsors: With the BOMA Association Executive, the membership chair (and committee) shall review the status of the renewals of existing members and sponsors.  Through personal, written or telephone contacts, members who have not renewed should be encouraged to do so.

Where members choose not to renew, an effort shall be made by the committee to determine the reason for the decision.  A summary of this information may be presented to the board of directors for their information and potential action to correct any deficiencies.

Solicitation of New Members & Sponsors: With the BOMA association executive, the membership chair shall review the literature normally supplied to potential members who request information.

The BOMA association executive shall provide the names, addresses and telephone numbers of those prospective members to the membership committee for their follow up.

The BOMA association executive shall assist the membership committee in developing a list of prospective regular members for concentrated promotion efforts.

Membership & Sponsorship Retention: With the BOMA association executive, an effort shall be made to identify those companies that have limited participation in BOMA activities.  The committee should contact the company representative to determine if a problem exists and to encourage better participation.

The chair should work with the BOMA Association Executive to develop innovative programs to encourage membership growth and renewal.  Particular attention should be given to recommended programs from BOMA International.

To affect a membership development and retention program for the purpose of increasing membership and retention of existing members.

Sponsorship Benefits Compliance: Work with BAE to ensure we are compliant with sponsorship benefits.

Coordinate scheduling of lunch and learns as part of Platinum Sponsorship Package benefit.
